Be among the first to discover Kaudulla, opened in September 2002 principally to provide a corridor for elephants migrating between Minneriya and Somawathiya National Parks. Located at the heart of the Cultural Triangle it is dominated by the seventeenth century Kaudulla Tank.
Your journey through Kaudulla will provide a varied experience of Sri Lanka's wildlife by jeep or even out by boat on the expansive tank. Vegetation in the 6,656ha park consists of semi-mixed evergreen grassland and riverine forest while its major attraction is the large herds of up to 250 elephants that gather by the tank drinking, playing and washing in the dry season from August to December. As catamaran trips are uniquely offered on the tank, it allows you to get photographically close to wildlife that includes sambhur, leopard, sloth bear, fishing cat and the rare rusty-spotted cat. It is also an excellent location for bird watching.
